Parts of Plant
Plant
Plant are mainly multicellular organism, predominantly photosynthetic eukaryotes of the kingdom Plantae. Plant are divided into 2 system i.e root system and shoot system.
Root system - The underground part of the flowering plant.
Shoot system - The portion above the ground
1. Root
- Underground non-green part (due to absence of chlorophyll)
- They anchor the plants in the soil
- Absorb water and nutrients from the soil
- It is also used to store food
- Root arise from radicle
2. Stem
- Support the upper part of plant
- The Bark of trees are brown in colour & younger stems are green in color
- It forms the base of shoot system
- Stems arise from plumule
- Helps in upward movement of water
3. Leaf
- The most important part of a plant
- They contain chlorophyll that helps the plants to prepare their food
- Photosynthesis usually occurs in leaves
- Photosynthesis - The green substance chlorophyll, captures sunlight & uses it to convert water and carbon- dioxide in to plant food any oxygen.
4. Flowers
- Flowers are the most beautiful and colorful part of a plant
- They are the reproductive part of a plant
- Flower are also a source of food for other living organisms
- They are a rich source of nectar
5. Fruit
- Fruits are the main features of a flowering plant
- Fruit can be fleshy like an apple mango or hard like a nut
- Fruit usually surround seeds. They protect the seeds & attract animals to eat them.
- It is a matured ovary that develops after fertilisation
- Some fruits are developed without fertilization & are known as parthenocarpic fruits
- Example:- Banana, Coconut
6. Seeds
- Contain plant material that can develop into another plant
- This plant material is called an embryo.
- Seeds are covered with a protective seed coat & have 1 or 2 cotyledons
