Common Antibiotics

An antibiotic is a type of antimicrobial substance active against bacteria.
It is the most important type of antibacterial agent for fighting bacterial infection.Antibiotic medication are widely used in the treatment and prevention of such infection.

 

 Characteristics of antibiotics

  1. Antibiotic fight bacterial infection either by killing bacteria or slowing and suspending its growth.
  2. Antibiotic are not effective against viral infection such as common cold or flu. 

 

Antibiotic resistance- taking antibiotic too often can change bacteria so much that antibiotic does not work against them and this is called antibiotic resistance.

Side effects - The most common side effect of antibiotics affect the digestive system include vomiting, nausea, diarrhoea and loss appetite. These side effects are usually mild and should pass once we finish course of treatment. 

Few people have allergic reaction to antibiotics, reaction is mild to moderate and can take the form of itchy skin rash, coughing and this allergic reaction can be successfully treated by taking antihistamines.
