As a subject, it include various branches.
  • The science that  is based on natural facts is called natural science
  • The science that is related to social activities is called social science

Natural science has 2 main branches -

  1. Physical science
  2. Life Science
  1. Physical science- we study about the non- living material of nature. It include Physics, chemistry.
  2. Life science- it include the study of living matter (animals and plants).
Biology is made of 2 Greek words 'Bios' and 'Logos'. 'Bios' means life and Logos means study.
Thus, science that is related to living beings is called biology.

The main branches of biological science.

1. Botany - It deals with the study of plants as they form a part of nature.

2. Zoology - It is the branch of biology which specializes in the study of animals.

3. Ecology - The study of interactions of living organisms with one another and their environment.

4. Genetics The study of genes, heredity and variation.

5. Microbiology - The study of microscopic organisms  and there interactions with other living things is called microbiology. They include bacteria, protozoa, fungi, algae and viruses.

6. Biotechnology - The study of manipulation of living matter, including genetic modification and       synthetic biology. This branch dealing with utilization of living organisms or substances obtained from them in industrial production.

7. Microbial biotechnology - It is defined as any technological application that uses microbiological systems, microbial organisms to make or modify products or processes for specific use.

8. Bioinformatics - This branch uses I.T for study, collection and storage of genetic and other biological data.
