                                            Blood cells

Different types of cells are present in blood. Major types of blood cells include RBC, WBC, Platelets. Blood cells are also called hematocyte or hematopoietic cell.

RBC (erythrocyte) - It contain red pigments called Haemoglobin. It carry oxygen to the tissues. They have a life span of approximately 120 days. RBC are circular, biconcave in shape. These cells are most abundant cell in the blood. Mature RBC lack nucleus.

WBC (leucocytes) - They provide the front-line defense to fight against diseases. Granulocytes and agranulocytes are the two types of WBC found in blood.

Granulocytes - It consist of a granular cytoplasm. Granulocytes originated from the bone marrow. They mainly involved in innate immunity. Each type of granulocytes is distinguished by different chemicals.

Agranulocytes - These cells lack granules in their cytoplasm. Agranulocytes consist of single large nucleus. They are also referred to as mononuclear leukocytes. These cells are involved in adaptive immunity.

Agranulocytes are of different types:

Platelets (thrombocytes) - These are tiny blood cells that help body to form clots to stop bleeding. Platelets  are made in bone marrow.
