DNA vs RNA its introduction, types and difference | study science

 Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA)

DNA is the chemical name for the molecule. It carries genetic information in all living things. The DNA consist of two strand and known as double helix. The two strands are held together by bonds between the bases.

Types of DNA

There are three types of DNA:

1. A- DNA, It is right handed double helix similar to B- DNA form.

2. B- DNA, It is most common DNA conformation and is right handed

3. Z- DNA, This is left handed DNA where double helix winds to left in a zig-zag pattern.

Ribonucleic acid (RNA)

RNA is a complex compound of high molecular weight that function in protein synthesis and replace DNA as a carrier of genetic material in some viruses. RNA is single stranded polymer.

Three major classes of RNA

1. Messenger RNA (mRNA) - it code for protein

2. Ribosomal RNA (rRNA) - involve in translation

3. Transfer RNA (tRNA) - involve in translation
